A Fam with a Plan
I realized the other day while I was posting pictures of the building process that I haven't actually shown you the plans or what this farmhouse is supposed to look like! As a visual learner myself, I found this oversight very annoying. To circle back to last week's blog--I am a bad blogger. I could really kick myself for not doing this to begin with! So without further ado, I give you the Roney Farmhouse:
You may wonder how it is that Paul and I decided upon this EXACT house to build. It's actually a pretty crazy story--
From the moment that Paul let slip those beautiful words that set this whole thing into motion ("let's build our dream house"), I began pinning ranch farmhouses to my heart's content. Word of advice; do not simply type in the word "Farmhouse" into Pinterest. You will black out and lose 3 days of your life. Learned from it--moving on. It helps to be specific in your searches (ie. white and black farmhouse ranch with cedar posts). And over and over, my search would throw out the same house. A green ranch with white trim and completely craftsman. Pinterest and Siri have a knack for confusing me and telling me what my heart truly wants. Siri likes to tell me that I want to call my friend Carlie about 4 times a day, no matter who I'm trying to call at the moment. And let's face it, I love my friend Carlie, so most of the time, I just roll with it and she gets the random phone call from me instead of the dentist... Pinterest is a little sneakier. They keep subliminally inserting things that I'm not sure I love into my search results and after time, I can't live without them. Not quite the case with this house, but it was certainly not a farmhouse (yet). The problem with maniacally pinning for 3 days is that you forget a lot of the things that you've already pinned until you start looking back through them again. Perusing my Pinterest boards kind of remind me of the morning after a night of drinking when you're scrolling through your pictures... "I don't remember pinning this! Why would I like that?!" And after starting from the top, I found that I had pinned this particular home 5 times! FIVE! So, after emerging from my Pinterest coma (it's a real thing, Paul almost lost me there for a little bit), I showed my husband my top 12. 2 things have been extremely helpful in all of the home details for us: 1. My organizational skills. 2. Paul's ability to look at an entire board and help me narrow it down to a winner. And within about 10 minutes, we were both staring at the green house.
It was at this moment, while musing over this beautiful house, that Paul broke into the toothiest grin I've ever seen. Finally, after catching him grinning all over himself for a good 5 minutes, I couldn't take it.
K: Why are you so smiley?
P: We have those plans.
K: Is it one that you guys have already built??
P: No, they are in our storage unit right now!
You see, we were gifted a set of plans by our family friends not too long ago. They were originally planning to build like us, but ended up finding their dream home. When they were moving, Ken and Valerie gave me the plans hoping that someday maybe the Cedar Ridge team would build the house. I'd basically grown up at Valerie's and have come to know her impeccable taste, so it was not shocking that she picked the stunning soon-to-be Roney Farmhouse. I could honestly cry at our good fortune. What are the odds?!
I really want to tell you all of the changes we made to this house plan, but I'm just going to sit on my hands and reveal them slowly over the course of these posts! Mainly because today I can say; "Shell yeah! We have framing happening!!" (Y'all, just accept that my punny humor is never going to die. Embrace it.)
The basement--you can begin to see where the french doors will lead out to a small patio and the window to my craft room.
Day 2 and 3 were spent fleshing out the main level.

My view every morning from my bedroom. This window is MASSIVE!
We began the gables and the roof!! (pictures c/o Jen Marshall)
This picture gets me. Every time I get a picture update or I'm up there, I think "this isn't real". It's an absolute dream to watch and be a part of the building of our family home. We never stop being awed and humbled by this process.
And that's week one of framing kids! I am simply blown away with how quickly these walls went up! And...hello! I was able to get this post out on Monday like I promised! I hope y'all have a wonderful week! Framing continues this week and next week I believe we will delve into my plans for this beautiful outer structure.
